The central idea

Value is built in the detail.

Businesses rarely transform because of one dramatic intervention. They transform when the right improvements are made across products, services, processes, people and relationships. Those improvements then begin to compound.

"Big value is often created in very small moments."

The Value Chain helps us understand how your organisation creates value for customers, colleagues and stakeholders. Whether we focus on one team, a business unit or the whole organisation, we identify the gaps and turn insight into practical action.

Six core pillars

Where we can create value.

No generic playbook. We begin with your ambitions, commercial reality and obstacles. For a smaller business, that may mean freeing up time and improving margin. For a larger organisation, it may mean aligning teams, strengthening delivery or making change work across divisions.

01

Value & Customer Experience

Make every interaction more compelling, from before the first contact to long after completion.

  • • Customer journey and Value Chain mapping
  • • Value gains, gaps and moments that matter
  • • Service design and consistent delivery
  • • Trust, confidence and advocacy
02

Revenue, Pricing & Commercial Performance

Increase revenue and margin from the opportunities the business already has.

  • • Pricing strategy and value conversations
  • • Propositions and routes to market
  • • Conversion and pipeline performance
  • • Cross-selling and revenue opportunities
03

People, Performance & Culture

Create clarity, engagement and accountability without creating fear or bureaucracy.

  • • Employee value proposition
  • • Roles, progression and frameworks
  • • Performance cycles that work
  • • Leadership confidence and collaboration
04

Profit, Cost & Operational Discipline

Build efficient, reliable operations with the right level of structure for your organisation.

  • • Margin and cost visibility
  • • Management information
  • • Operating rhythm and governance
  • • Resilience beyond key individuals
05

Growth, Acquisitions & Integration

Grow with control and integrate businesses without losing people, income or culture.

  • • Organic vs acquired growth
  • • Acquisition assessment
  • • Integration and synergy planning
  • • Restructuring and scalability
06

Long-Term Value & Readiness

Strengthen the business for what comes next: continued growth, succession, investment or a transaction.

  • • Quality and predictability of earnings
  • • Succession and investment readiness
  • • Funding, MBO and due-diligence experience
  • • Leadership through a transaction

Ways to work together

From a focused day to a full partnership for lasting change.

Start with the challenge, not the size of your business. You might be an owner with a small team, a director leading a division or a leadership team coordinating wider change. We agree a manageable scope, the right people and clear outcomes from the outset.

Start small or work more widely. There is no need to commit to a large programme to make useful progress. Scope, pace and investment are agreed around your priorities, resources and the support required.

How we work together

Understand first. Act second.

The presenting problem is not always the real problem. We follow the money, observe the customer and employee experience, challenge assumptions and find the few priorities capable of creating disproportionate value.

“No theory without application.
No change without accountability.”
01

Business Value Review

A proportionate review of the business, division or team, focused on the challenge we have agreed to address.

02

Business Value Blueprint

A clear view of strengths, value gaps, immediate opportunities, priorities and the measures that matter.

03

Focused implementation

Working sessions with the right people, built around action and coordinated with your existing teams and programmes.

04

Measurement and accountability

Clear measures, honest conversations and a review rhythm that fits how your organisation makes decisions.

05

Capability that remains

Confident people, stronger ways of working and the capability to sustain progress after our work together.

Experience earned in the real world

I’ve lived the decisions I now help others make.

I spent 27 years helping to build Miles & Barr, from negotiator to owner, CEO and ultimately exit.

Along the way, I helped grow the business from two offices to a substantial multi-site operation, led more than 200 people, completed and integrated over ten acquisitions and built award-winning customer and employee cultures.

I led a management buyout three weeks before lockdown, navigated the credit crunch and COVID, prepared the business for sale, managed financial and legal due diligence and completed a successful private-equity-backed exit in 2024. I then remained to lead the business under its new ownership.

That experience means I understand the difference between an attractive idea and one that can actually survive contact with customers, colleagues, cash flow and the boardroom.

I bring that practical perspective to businesses of different sizes, working alongside the people closest to the challenge.

Beyond the boardroom

"Away from work, life revolves around Sarah, Didi and Sullivan, and making the most of the time and freedom that building a valuable business should ultimately create."
